New Delhi: Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday’s much-anticipated film–Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh has locked in a fresh release date. The historical drama originally slated for a March 14 release, will now hit theatres on April 18, 2025, coinciding with Good Friday.

Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film is based on The Case That Shook The Empire, a book written by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. The story follows the courageous battle of C. Sankaran Nair, one of India’s top barristers who fearlessly took on the British Raj to expose the brutal truth of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. His courtroom battle wasn’t just a legal fight but a defining moment in India’s freedom struggle.

All about Kesari Chapter 2

Earlier announced as an untitled project, the film now carries the title Kesari Chapter 2. The title clearly connects to Akshay Kumar’s 2019 blockbuster Kesari, which was based on the Battle of Saragarhi. However, while the first Kesari focused on a valiant military battle, Kesari Chapter 2 shifts the lens to a different kind of war—one fought in the corridors of power with intellect, resilience and an unshakable belief in justice.

The film features Akshay Kumar as C. Sankaran Nair, with R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in pivotal roles. Madhavan, fresh off his success in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect and the Student of the Year 2 actress stepping into a period drama for the first time, adds an interesting dynamic to the cast.

Dharma Productions brings it to the big screen

Backed by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective and Cape of Good Films, the movie promises to be a compelling mix of history, drama and legal intrigue. The announcement was officially made by trade analyst Taran Adarsh who shared the news on Instagram.

For those unfamiliar with C. Sankaran Nair’s legacy, he was a former President of the Indian National Congress and a member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council. His bold defiance against British authorities played a crucial role in shaping India’s fight for independence.
