Will Shahid Kapoor’s Deva be a Box Office failure? Trade analyst predicts uphill battle

New Delhi: Shahid Kapoor’s Deva has been eyeing quite an impressive impact at the Box Office. It is to be noted that most believe that Deva is a remake of the 2013 Malayalam film Mumbai Police, both directed by Rosshan Andrrews. After its theatrical release on January 31, 2025, Deva received mixed reactions. While some fans truly enjoyed Shahid’s performance, the film did not seem to have matched expectations.

Taking back the fans to his Kabir Singh and Bloody Daddy era, Shahid Kapoor’s performance, with acting and dance, has only been applauded by the viewers. However, in a conversation with a trade analyst, Girish Wankhade, here is what we predict about Deva’s Box office collection.

Deva’s poor Box Office performance

On its first day, Deva managed to garner only Rs 5 crore, a number that is significantly below industry expectations for a film of this calibre. The mixed word-of-mouth reviews that followed have further dampened its prospects. “Even if there is a slight uptick in ticket sales over the weekend, it is unlikely to be substantial enough to salvage its overall performance,” postulated Girish Wankahde. These projections suggest that the film may struggle to surpass Rs 20 crore in its opening weekend, which would be a disappointing outcome.

Girish Wankhade concluded, that Deva seems to be facing an uphill battle. With a combination of ineffective marketing, a lack of originality, and mixed audience reactions, it appears that the film may not achieve the commercial success that was initially hoped for. As it stands, Deva may be labelled a failure at the box office, reflecting the importance of a cohesive team effort and innovative storytelling in the film industry.
