Rakesh Roshan says Krrish 4 is ‘not shelved’, gives THIS reason for years of delay

New Delhi: The wait for Krrish 4 feels longer than Rohit’s leap from Koi Mil Gaya to becoming India’s beloved superhero. But there’s a reason for the delay and it’s not an alien invasion or a script issue—it’s the budget. In a candid chat with Gaana, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan revealed the financial hurdles in making Krrish 4 a reality.

He admitted, “Kaafi saal se wait kar rahe hain lekin mera budgeting ho nahi raha hai.” The issue isn’t just about money but about meeting the sky-high expectations of today’s audience, who are used to watching Marvel and DC spectacles.

Krissh 4 delayed due to budget issues?

“The film’s scale is huge. If I reduce it, it’ll look like an ordinary film,” he said. And that’s the crux of the problem—delivering a superhero blockbuster without the luxury of a Hollywood-sized budget. Rakesh Roshan didn’t mince words when he added, “Itne paise hote nahi hain humare paas. Our budget doesn’t allow us to make films on that scale.”

To put it in perspective, while Hollywood churns out superhero flicks with budgets soaring over $500 million, Roshan is working with a comparatively modest Rs 200-300 crore. That’s like trying to build a spaceship with bicycle parts—or at least that’s how it feels when competing with the Avengers.

Is Rakesh Roshan’s Krrish 4 shelved?

But it’s not all gloomy. Rakesh Roshan stated that Krrish 4 isn’t shelved, just on pause. “We have to focus more on the story. There will be big sequences, but instead of ten, we might have two or three,” he explained. Quality over quantity seems to be the new mantra.

In an earlier interview with India Today, the Karan Arjun director touched on another industry challenge: dwindling theatre audiences. “People aren’t returning to cinemas like before. That’s a big question mark for me,” he said. And when you’re planning a film that’s supposed to be bigger and better than Krrish 3, that’s a lot of pressure.

All about the Krrish franchise

The Krrish journey started in 2003 with Koi Mil Gaya, where we met Rohit (Hrithik Roshan) and his alien buddy, Jadoo. It evolved into Krrish (2006), where Hrithik donned the jet-black superhero cape and continued with Krrish 3 in 2013. The third instalment also featured Kangana Ranaut as the villainous mutant Kaya.
