New Delhi: Coming as a fresh development in the India’s Got Latent controversy, Ashish Chanchlani has reportedly moved the Supreme Court. The renowned YouTuber has approached the top court seeking to quash or transfer to Mumbai an FIR registered in Guwahati. It is to be noted that the case was filed for allegedly promoting obscenity in an online show.
For the unversed, the renowned YouTuber is one of the individuals named in the case registered in Assam, with Ranveer Allahbadia being the key accused. The podcaster stirred controversy due to his remarks on Samay Raina’s YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
Hearing on Friday
According to PTI, the plea is listed for hearing on Friday (February 21, 2025) before a Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh. Drafted by advocate Shubham Kulshreshtha and filed by advocate Manju Jaitley, the plea seeks the quashing of the FIR registered at the Cyber Police Station, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam.
Also, Chanchlani has requested the transfer of the FIR to the Mumbai Police Station Nodal Cyber, as the FIR bearing No. 05 of 2025 was first registered there. The news agency further reported that Chanchlani was granted interim bail by the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday (February 18, 2025), while hearing his anticipatory bail petition. He was directed to appear before the investigating officer within 10 days.
Chanchlani’s legal counsels argued that their client did not make any statements during the India’s Got Latent episode. They further stated that the allegations in the FIR were made against the co-accused persons only.
Following a complaint by an individual, the FIR was registered by the Guwahati Police on February 10, 2025, under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, the Cinematograph Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. Interim protection from arrest was recently granted by the top court to Allahbadia over his comments, calling it vulgar and saying he had a dirty mind which put society to shame.
