New Delhi: The Indian comedy scene has been falling apart. From what it seems like, the biggest comedians have been falling from grace as they trigger controversies across India. Munawar Faruqui, one such comedian has been facing backlash after his latest satirical show, Hafta Vasooli was criticised.

According to the public, Munawar Faruqui’s show allegedly promotes obscenity and hurts religious sentiments. Now, the comedian is facing legal action and a potential ban. Here is what is happening.

Munawar Faruqui faces backlash over ‘vulgar, religious insensitivity’

Munawar Faruqui faces a formal complaint after advocate Amita Sachdeva filed a case against Hafta Vasooli, urging the police to register an FIR against various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 196, 299, and 353, along with provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

The official report claims that the show disrespects multiple religions, goes against cultural values and has been corrupting young viewers.

Further, The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has also raised objections to the show, calling Munawar a ‘Hindu hater’, and demanding an immediate ban.

For those unaware, Hafta Vasooli debuted on February 14, 2025, and is presented in a newsroom style where the comedian focuses on political and cultural events. The show attempts to blend humour with social commentary, a format that has both gained praise but also invited criticism.
