New Delhi: Ed Sheeran, one of the biggest pop stars in the world is currently on the Indian leg of his tour. So far, Ed has performed in Hyderabad and Chennai and is set to take over Delhi and Shillong next. On Sunday (February 9) the singer was spotted busking on the streets of Bengaluru. The spontaneous video went viral, but it’s not what you think.

The viral video shows Ed performing his hit song Shape of You and was joined by fans gathered at Chruch Street. However, the performance was cut short by the police as they disconnected cables and ended the act. That’s right. Prior to this incident, the singer addressed the ’embarrassing’ clip and added some context.

Ed Sheeran took to his Instagram stories to reveal that they did in fact have prior permission to busk in the area. “Hence, us playing in that exact spot was planned out before. It wasn’t just us randomly turning up. All good though. See you at the show tonight x,” explained Ed.

For content, the video also shows Ed saying, “We have the permission to be here, but this policeman is shutting it down.” This incident left the internet divided as one half finds this situation funny, and the other is angry at the Bengaluru authorities who failed to cross-examine permits. However, there is another side that supports the policeman in doing his job. “This will block the road, create issues, and finally lead to a stampede. Have you forgotten what happened when Allu Arjun visited the cinema hall to surprise fans?” wrote a netizen. While netizens find the situation hilarious, Ed’s further clarification on Instagram suggests that the police and Ed might have been lost in translation.

On the work front, Ed Sheeran is slated to perform in Shillong on February 12 and Delhi NCR on February 15.
