Maha Kumbh 2025: Kannada actress Pavithra Gowda takes holy dip; receives backlash

New Delhi: Kannada actress Pavithra Gowda, who was previously embroiled in the infamous Renuka Swamy murder case along with actor Darshan, took a spiritual dip at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, where she performed a holy ritual on the auspicious day of Mauni Amavasya. However, she received massive backlash for the same from netizens.

Pavithra also hit back at the trollers on social media for “criticising and harassing” her. Pavithra and Darshan were arrested last year in connection with the murder of Renuka Swamy, who allegedly sent obscene messages to the actress. While both were convicted, they are currently out on bail. Since their release, Pavitra and Darshan have turned to spirituality.

On the sacred occasion of Mauni Amavasya, Kannada actress Pavithra Gowda took part in Amrit Snan (holy bath) at the Triveni Sangam, a confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati river. She took to Instagram to share her pictures and videos from her holy dip. In the post, she expressed that she considers the bath on sacred Mauni Amavasya day at the Maha Kumbh Mela as a blessing. She further shared that she has found “freedom from negative energy”.

As soon as she dropped the post, it went viral and many reacted to it positively. However, some netizens criticised her, pointing out her controversial past. Many slammed her for being free-spirited while having allegedly contributed to ruining a family. Though she was released on bail, the murder case of Renuka Swamy continues to haunt her, with many questioning her actions.

After being massively trolled, she shared another post on social media where she said that in the battle between religion and injustice, religion always wins. She then sarcastically thanked trollers for “criticising and harassing” her, adding that their comments have crossed all limits and continue to cause pain. She concluded the note by saying, “But, they also push me deeper into sorrow.”
