Is Captain America: Brave New World worth the watch? Here’s what the critics say

New Delhi: Captain America has been a beloved superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Chris Evans’ Captain America was a fan-favourite worldwide. However, Chris passed on his shield to Anthony Mackie. This news did not delight most fans, but most thought the change would settle in once time passed. But, this does not seem to be the case. Anthony Mackie’s first solo MCU film, Captain America: Brave New World released on February 14, 2025, and has received quite mixed reviews.

While Indians predominantly use IMDb to find reviews, however, the Western world uses Rotten Tomatoes to gauge a film. Well, according to the critics on Rotten Tomatoes, Captain America: Brave New World is currently one of the worst-rated MCU films to date. You read that right! Here is what we have learnt.

Captain America: Brave New World critics’ score

On February 14, Captain America: Brave New World debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a 52 per cent Tomatometer rating. This comes as a shock as this makes the film the third-lowest-rated film in the MCU. As per a report by Screenrant, Captain America: Brave New World is expected to make 85-95 million USD  in the USS and 190 million UDSD  worldwide. Below Anthony Makcie’s film stand Eternals and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania with 47 per cent and 46 per cent ratings respectively.

Marvel fans have already acknowledged the Ant-Man and Enternal franchises to be the worst adaptations to come out of MCU, will Brave New World join the list? Since the end of the 1decade-long Endgame saga, MCU has been having quite a tough time adapting and changing according to the audience. Fans have repeatedly called out the studios for their formulaic dialogues, unimpressive world-building and casting choices as MCU entered phase 4.

In fact, the only successful film to emerge from the current phase is Deadpool & Wolverine which managed to capture the MCU fans’ hearts.

Well, since the film has only begun its theatrical run, it is too soon to determine this.
