New Delhi: It was a night filled with fun, excitement and patriotism at the Coldplay Ahmedabad concert on Sunday (January 26, 2025), as the frontman surprised the crowd by singing Vande Mataram and Maa Tujhe Salaam. The British rock band’s final performance in India took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which holds a capacity of more than 1.25 lakh viewers, coinciding with the occasion of Republic Day.

The 47-year-old vocalist was quoted as saying by PTI that Coldplay was so happy and grateful to be there. He added that the band was lucky to play in the beautiful country, especially on a day when all the planets were aligned and they had the best audience in the best stadium in the whole wide world.

The singer also hummed a few lines from AR Rahman’s 1997 patriotic track Maa Tujhe Salaam, winning the hearts of music lovers. A video of the captivating moment from the concert is now going viral on social media and garnering immense praise from netizens. Have a look:

The show was also attended by Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Calling the 31-year-old cricketer his ‘beautiful brother,’ Chris also labelled him the best bowler in the whole world. The whole stadium erupted in loud cheers and applause as the screen in the back showcased clips of Jasprit bowling out England batsmen during a Test match.

Coldplay in India

It is to be noted that the Republic Day special concert marked the band’s concluding performance in India as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour. During the India leg, Coldplay performed at three sold-out shows in Mumbai, while their fourth concert dominated Ahmedabad on Saturday (January 25, 2025).

Coldplay also includes guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer and percussionist Will Champion, and manager Phil Harvey. They previously performed in the nation in 2016 at the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai.
