New Delhi: After garnering massive buzz on social media, Chhaava finally made its theatrical debut on Friday (February 14, 2025), coinciding with the joyous occasion of Valentine’s Day. And, reportedly, the historical drama has now become the biggest Box Office opener of the year so far in Hindi cinema by attracting huge footfalls in cinemas.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, early estimates suggest that the much-talked-about film raked in Rs 31 crore on Day 1. The number is likely to become more accurate as the day progresses. The collections are expected to witness a hike during the weekend.

The movie features Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the lead. It also stars Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Ashutosh Rana as Hambirrao Mohite, Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum, Divya Dutta as Soyarabai and Vineet Kumar Singh as Kavi Kalash.

The flick, directed by renowned filmmaker Laxman Utekar, is based on the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant. It opened to mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences. Chhaava is being highly praised by cinema lovers for its gripping storyline and compelling performances by the star cast.

The film boasts narration by Ajay Devgn, with music composed by Academy Award-winning AR Rahman and lyrics penned by critically acclaimed Irshad Kamil and Kshitij Patwardhan. It has been edited by Manish Pradhan, with Saurabh Goswami serving as the cinematographer.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Rashmika explained that when she heard the narration of the movie, she was confused and shocked but also so grateful, overwhelmed and happy that she did not know how to react. “A girl from the South playing Maharani Yesubai. That was something I never had on my radar. Never thought it was possible, and that’s why I love working with people who give us the hope to dream beyond boundaries,” she posted on the popular photo-sharing platform.
