New Delhi: Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan found herself embroiled in a controversy over her remark on the Hindu festival Holi on the reality show, Celebrity MasterChef. Following this, a criminal complaint was filed against her for allegedly making a derogatory remark about the Hindu festival.

For those who don’t know, Farah Khan recently appeared on the TV show Celebrity MasterChef 2025. During the episode that aired on February 20, she said, “Chhapri logon ka favourite festival hota hai holi (The favourite festival of wannabes is Holi).” Let’s delve into further details!

Farah Khan in legal trouble over Holi remark

The criminal complaint was filed by Vikash Fhatak, who is popularly known as Hindustani Bhau. He filed the complaint through his lawyer Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh. In the complaint filed at Khar Police Station in Mumbai, the complainant sought legal action against Farah Khan for her controversial statement, according to the latest reports.

In the complaint, Hindustani Bhau claimed that Farah Khan referred to Holi as a “festival for the Chhapris”, which is widely seen as “derogatory”. He also stated that her comment had deeply hurt his “personal religious sentiments and those of the larger Hindu community”.

Advocate Deshmukh also stated that the controversial comment by Farah Khan has the “potential to cause communal tension”. According to reports, the FIR was filed against Farah Khan under sections 196, 299, 302, and 353 of the Indian Penal Code.

For those unfamiliar, the word “chhapri” is considered a casteist slur, for which Farah was also trolled heavily on social media.

Farah Khan is known for her directorials including Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om, Tees Maar Khan and Happy New Year. She has also choreographed dance routines for over 80 films including Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai and Pehla Nasha, among others.
