New Delhi: Vijay is ready to don a new role, and it’s not just on screen. The Tamil superstar recently unveiled the title of his much-anticipated 69th film– Jana Nayagan (Leader of the Masses), which also marks his swan song in cinema before he transitions into active politics.

From Thalapathy 69 to Jana Nayagan

Directed by H. Vinoth, the political action thriller Jana Nayagan offers a peek into Vijay’s character and a possible reflection of his real-life political aspirations. The newly released poster shows the Theri star standing atop a vehicle, clad in a denim shirt and dark sunglasses, clicking a selfie with a sea of white supporters. The image echoes Vijay’s well-known habit of interacting with massive crowds and sharing selfies.

The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander with production by KVN Productions. Sharing the poster on social media, Vijay kept it simple with the caption, “#JanaNayagan.”

Jana Nayagan boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Monisha Blessy and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. The project is KVN Productions’ first Tamil film and Vijay’s final cinematic outing before entering politics. The movie was announced in September 2024 under its working title Thalapathy 69, and has been described as a political action thriller that resonates with themes of democracy and leadership.

Thalapathy Vijay’s political leap

While fans are celebrating Jana Nayagan, they are also preparing for Vijay’s next chapter—his political journey. Earlier this year, the 50-year-old actor announced his plans to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections with his new party– Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. He envisions a corruption-free, progressive, and secular government, aiming to combat the divisive political climate.

In his statement, Vijay shared, “I am aiming for a corruption-free, progressive, and secular government, considering the current political climate that divides people by religion, caste, and corruption everywhere.”
