New Delhi: Akshay Kumar’s new film Sky Force alongside debutant Veer Pahariya is gearing up for its Republic Day release this Friday (January 24). The action drama, directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur, is set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistani air war of 1965, showcasing India’s daring attack on Pakistan’s Sargodha airbase.

While patriotic themes usually draw audiences, the film’s advance booking numbers suggest a slow start at the box office. Scroll down to read more as we delve into the details of the advance booking of Akshay Kumar-starrer Sky Force!

Sky Force advance booking details

As of January 22, the day 1 advance bookings for Sky Force have only garnered Rs 17.35 lakh gross (excluding blocked seats). This number pales in comparison to Sarfira, which had Rs 75 lakh in opening-day pre-sales. With just 23.13% of Sarfira’s total advance bookings, Sky Force is trailing behind expectations, particularly for a film of this scale.

So far, the movie has sold over 9,400 tickets nationwide, with national cinema chains like PVR INOX and Cinepolis accounting for around 4,100 sales. Delhi is leading the pre-sales figures with Rs 8.57 lakh gross, followed by Maharashtra at Rs 5.17 lakh. Despite the limited initial allocation of 2,400 shows, the number is expected to rise as the release date approaches.

Akshay Kumar’s box office woes

In recent years, Akshay Kumar has faced challenges at the box office, with several of his films underperforming. This streak of flops has created a negative perception among audiences, which seems to be affecting the pre-release buzz for Sky Force.

However, with the film’s patriotic theme and potential for positive word-of-mouth, there is hope for a turnaround. Akshay has previously seen success with patriotic dramas, and the Republic Day release might work in the film’s favour.

Can Sky Force take off?

Given the slow advance bookings, Sky Force will need a strong push from spot bookings and favourable reviews to gain momentum. While the film’s concept has promise, it remains to be seen if it can overcome the hurdles posed by low pre-sales and Akshay’s recent box office slump.

The film also stars Sara Ali Khan and Nimrat Kaur in pivotal roles and is backed by Maddock Films and JioCinema. Sky Force will hit the theatres on January 24.
