New Delhi: Mumbai Police has made significant progress in the ongoing investigation into the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. For the unversed, the 54-year-old actor was stabbed by an intruder in his Bandra apartment last Thursday (January 16). A crucial piece of evidence—a cap belonging to the suspect—was discovered in the room of Saif’s younger son, Jeh.

According to a report by India Today, hair strands found on the cap have been sent for DNA analysis at the forensic science laboratory (FSL). The police believe this could further link the intruder to the crime scene.

Saif Ali Khan returns home

The Vikram Vedha actor returned home on Tuesday (January 21), five days after undergoing surgeries at Lilavati Hospital. Saif had neurosurgery for a spinal injury and plastic surgery for wounds on his neck and hands. Dressed in a white shirt and blue jeans, the actor appeared visibly weak but smiled and waved to cameras as he exited the hospital with bandaged hands.

Expressing his gratitude, Saif thanked fans and well-wishers for their support during his recovery. His wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, was seen at the hospital shortly before his discharge.

Saif Ali Khan’s attacker

The Mumbai Police arrested the alleged attacker, identified as 30-year-old Bangladeshi national Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir. He was apprehended in Thane on Sunday (January 19) and is currently in police custody.

The accused reportedly entered Saif’s flat through a bathroom window intending to commit theft. However, he was spotted by the actor’s staff, leading to an argument. When Saif intervened and held the intruder tightly, the attacker stabbed him multiple times in the back to free himself. The accused then fled, hiding in the building’s garden for two hours before escaping. The police are piecing together the events leading to the attack.

The discovery of the cap in Jeh’s room has raised questions about how far the intruder ventured inside the house. DNA analysis of the hair strands found on the cap could provide further evidence against the accused.
