New Delhi: Actor Rana Daggubati along with his other family members including Daggubati Venkatesh and Daggubati Suresh, among others have been booked for allegedly illegally demolishing a hotel last year. A criminal case has been filed against the Daggubati family members for demolishing a hotel despite an order to maintain the status quo from the Telangana High Court and a pending injunction from a City Civil Court.
The case is based on a one-year-old complaint by a businessman who has taken their property in Film Nagar, Hyderabad on lease to start a restaurant. In January 2024, the businessman Nanda Kumar filed a complaint accusing the family of trying to evict him from the property, which he took on lease in 2014.
Rana Daggubati and family in legal soup
On Saturday (January 11), Daggubati Venkatesh, and his brother-producer Daggubati Suresh have been booked. Apart from them, Daggubati Suresh’s son and actor Rana Daggubati and Rana’s brother Abhiranm have also been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint was filed based on the order by a local court. They are charged under the IPC sections 448 (house trespass), 458 (lurking house-trespass, and 452 (house trespass after preparing to cause harm).
Notably, as per reports, the businessman Nanda Kumar is accused in the alleged poaching of Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLAs in 2022. Meanwhile, the case is based on the demolition of the Deccan Kitchen Hotel in Film Nagar, which was allegedly done by Rana Daggubati and his family.
In 2022, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) demolished a portion of the hotel and adjoining structures stating that they were unauthorised. In July 2023, the High Court sought an explanation from the Municipal Corporation on the demolition and ordered to maintain the status quo. However, in January 2024, the Daggubati family reportedly completed the demolition, prompting the businessman to approach the court, who claimed to have suffered a loss of Rs 20 crore due to the demolition.
