Paatal Lok Season 2: Recap of first season, what to expect and more

New Delhi: Jaideep Ahlawat starrer Paatal Lok Season 2 is all set to release on Amazon Prime Video on January 17, 2025, amid much hype. The crime thriller web series made its debut on the online streaming platform with its first season in 2020 and now after more than four years, the show is set to return.

As you wait for its grand release on OTT, let’s take a look at the key events that took place in Season One of the highly-anticipated web series.

Paatal Lok: Season One recap

The first season was created by Sudeep Sharma and is based on the book ‘The Story of My Assassins’ by Tarun Tejpal. The first season has a total of nine episodes and revolves around Inspector Hathi Ram. The series makes the connection of the events with the Paatal Lok that still exists in human lives.

The first season shows that Inspector Hathiram is looked down upon his peers and his family for not being able to secure a promotion for years. The dramatisation also reveals that the division in the human race still exists – while the wealthy make it to Swag Lok and manipulate those who have lower strata than them.

Hathiram is given a high-end case of the attempted murder of a famous journalist and news anchor, Sanjeev Mehra (played by Neeraj Kobi). Hathiram sees the case as an opportunity to get a promotion but when he investigates the case, he understands that it’s more than what it seems. Meanwhile, Hathoda Tyagi, Tope Singh, Cheeni and Kabir M are charged with the attempted murder of the journalist but soon Hathi Ram finds out that they are just puppets in a larger plot.

Another key twist of the series is when Donullia dies but his brother-in-law keeps it a secret. Another player in the narrative is politician Balkishan Bajpayee who holds the key to the puzzle. At the end of Season One, it is revealed that Bajpayee was planning to cross Gwala Gujjar and had no intentions of helping him get into politics. It is also revealed that Sanjeev Mishra was just a pawn and the attack on him came from Gujjar.

About Paatal Lok Season 2: What to expect?

The cast of Paatal Lok Season 2 includes Jaideep Ahlawat, Tillotama Shome, Gul Panag, and Nagesh Kukunoor, among others. This season might not be directly linked to Season One but Hathi Ram will explore the sinister underworld and its corruption. Meanwhile, Jaideep Ahlawat told SCREEN that Sudip Sharma has created a new world for Paatal Lok Season 2.
