‘No divorce happening’: Govinda’s lawyer FINALLY breaks silence over Reddit rumour

New Delhi: Govinda and Sunita Ahuja’s relationship has been the talk of the town ever since rumours of their divorce surfaced on Reddit. While speculation ran wild across social media platforms, the 61-year-old actor’s lawyer, Lalit Bindal, has now set the record straight. Yes, Sunita did file for divorce six months ago, but the couple has since reconciled and is “going strong.”

In an interview with India Today, Lalit, who is also a close family friend of Govinda, confirmed that Sunita had indeed initiated legal proceedings for divorce. However, the couple managed to work through their issues and are now back together. “We even travelled to Nepal for the New Year and performed a puja together at Pashupati Nath Mandir. Everything is fine between them now,” he assured.

He added that disagreements are part of any marriage, but Govinda and Sunita remain committed to each other. “Such things keep happening between couples, but they are strong and will always be together,” he emphasized.

Rumours also suggested that Govinda and Sunita were living separately. The lawyer dismissed these claims, clarifying that the actor’s newly purchased bungalow—located just across from their longtime apartment—was bought during his tenure as an MP for official use. “Govinda sometimes attends meetings and even stays over in the bungalow, but the couple continues to live together in their home of many years,” he explained.

Lalit also blamed social media for fueling the controversy by misquoting Sunita’s past statements. “For instance, when she said, ‘Mujhe Govinda jaisa pati nahi chahiye (I don’t want a husband like Govinda in my next life),’ she also added that she wanted a son like him. People conveniently ignore the second part.”

Another comment that sparked speculation was Sunita’s remark about Govinda being “with his Valentine.” Lalit clarified, “She simply meant he was working, but people twisted her words. It is unfortunate that negativity spreads so easily when they are very much together. I can confirm—there is no divorce happening.”

Govinda, one of Bollywood’s most beloved 90s stars, married Sunita Ahuja in 1987. For those who do not know, the couple has two children—a daughter Tina and a son Yashvardhan. The rumour about the actor’s alleged divorce was initially shared via a Reddit post.
