Malayalam actor Ajith Vijayan passes away at 57

New Delhi: Malayalam film and television actor Ajith Vijayan passed away in Kochi on Sunday, February 9. He was 57. The cause of his sudden demise remains unknown. He is survived by his wife, Dhanya and daughters, Gowri and Gayatri.

For the unversed, Ajith carved a niche for himself in Indian cinema and television with his remarkable performances. He was best known for his roles in Oru Indian Pranayakatha, Bangalore Days, Amar Akbar Anthony and Anju Sundarikal (Kullante Bharya). His presence on screen, though often subtle, left a lasting impression.

Released in 2014, Bangalore Days remains one of the most celebrated Malayalam films. Directed by Anjali Menon, the coming-of-age drama was produced under Anwar Rasheed Entertainment and Weekend Blockbusters. With a stellar ensemble cast including Dulquer Salmaan, Fahadh Faasil, Nazriya Nazim, Nivin Pauly, and Parvathy Thiruvothu, the film was a massive success. It opened in 205 theatres across India and grossed approximately Rs 45 crore, ranking among the highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time.

Ajith Vijayan’s family

Ajith Vijayan belonged to a family with a rich artistic heritage. He was the grandson of Kathakali maestro Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair and renowned Mohiniyattam dancer Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma. His parents, the late C.K. Vijayan and Mohiniyattam guru Kala Vijayan were deeply involved in the world of performing arts. Additionally, veteran actor Kalashala Babu was his uncle.
