‘Disrespecting people’s parents’: SC slams Ranveer; bars travel outside India sans permission

New Delhi: The Supreme Court is currently hearing the plea of podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia in connection with India’s Got Latent controversy. In his plea, he has sought the clubbing of multiple cases filed against him over his controversial remarks on Samay Raina’s roast show, India’s Got Latent.
Ranveer Allahbadia’s lawyer, who is representing him in the case, stated that cases have been filed in multiple states, adding that Allahbadia’s life is in danger. The Supreme Court said in response, “You know how you should behave. You are aware of what obscenity is.”
SC lashed out at Ranveer Allahbadia
During the hearing, the Supreme Court noted, “You are disrespecting people’s parents. This is a product of a dirty mind. You have considerable wealth. You can defend yourself against the two separate FIRs. Why should we club the FIRs?”
Justice Surya Kant responded, “The investigation and trial cannot be conducted according to your convenience. If you are in danger, it is the responsibility of the state government. You should file a complaint.”
Without mincing words, the Supreme Court said that Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks showed his “pervert mind that made the entire society feel ashamed”.
Criticising Ranveer Allahbadia over his “inappropriate remark, Justice Surya Kant said during the hearing, “When you seek popularity through such things, people will naturally issue threats. His language is better than yours. The kind of words you have used would offend parents, guardians, and the entire society”, adding that the court cannot promote “such behaviour”. He further added that the “law will take its course”.
Supreme Court grills Ranveer Allahbadia
Justice Surya also questioned why the YouTuber did not go to the police station if his life was in danger. He further said, ” He went in the capacity of a lawyer. We will notify the Bar Council against the lawyer.”
Justice Kant also said, “Our society is not like that. The kind of content you are using—we are warning you about that as well. You are not doing any public service.”
SC grants protection from arrest to Ranveer Allahbadia
The Supreme Court has also issued a notice granting protection from arrest and instructing him to participate in the investigation. The top court also ruled that no further FIRs will be registered in connection with the controversial episode of India’s Got Latent.
SC directed Ranveer Allahbadia to deposit his passport at Thane police station and instructed that he shall not leave India without the court’s prior nod. The top court also restrained Allahbadia and other associate influencers on controversial YouTube shows from airing any other episode till further orders.
Supreme Court also asked Allahbadia to cooperate in the probe of FIRs registered in Maharastra and Assam over his alleged “vulgar” comments on India’s Got Latent.
