New Delhi: All We Imagine As Light was up for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 30th annual Critics Choice Awards. However, the Payal Kapadia directorial failed to bag the title at the ceremony, organised by the Critics Choice Association (CCA) on Friday (February 7, 2025) evening.
The much-talked-about event, hosted by Chelsea Handler, was live-streamed on Lionsgate Play in India. But which movie left All We Imagine As Light behind to emerge victorious? It was Emilia Perez. The Spanish-language French musical crime film was directed by renowned filmmaker Jacques Audiard.
For the unversed, Emilia Perez is based on Audiard’s own opera libretto. The storyline of the film revolves around the interesting journey of a Mexican cartel leader who enlists a lawyer to help her transition into a woman. It stars Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofia Gascon, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, Edgar Ramirez and Mark Ivanir in pivotal roles.
Emilia Perez received 13 nominations at the 97th Academy Awards. The Oscars 2025 are set to take place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. It will be interesting to see if Emilia Perez can continue its winning streak.
All We Imagine As Light details
Did you know All We Imagine As Light scripted history by becoming the first Indian title to win the Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024? Its plot follows two nurses, named Prabha and Anu, from Kerala who are navigating life and love in Mumbai, along with their friend and cook Parvaty.
Interestingly, the official India-French co-production also received nominations for Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language and Best Direction – Motion Picture at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards. Sadly, it failed to clinch the trophy there.
All We Imagine As Light features Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam and Hridhu Haroon. It witnessed a limited release last year in India, garnering positive reviews from moviegoers and critics. The film is now available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
