New Delhi: Coldplay’s electrifying concert at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on Saturday (January 18) was a night to remember. As part of their ongoing Music of the Spheres World Tour, the British band, led by Chris Martin, delighted fans with their iconic tracks, heartfelt performances and a charming dose of Hindi!

Chris Martin’s knack for engaging with audiences shone brightly when he read fan-held placards mid-performance. One such placard displayed the phrase “Jai Shree Ram.” Unfamiliar with its meaning, the singer curiously asked, sparking excitement across the crowd.

Chris Martin’s Hindi steals the show at Mumbai concert

The 47-year-old singer greeted fans with a warm “Namaste” and effortlessly spoke Hindi phrases like, “Aap sabka bohot swagat hai” and “Mumbai mein aakar humein bohot khushi ho rahi hai.” The crowd erupted with cheers, celebrating his effort to connect in their language.

Post-concert, fans took to social media to rave about the show and Chris’s Hindi skills. One fan joked, “He sounds like my ChatGPT at 2 AM,” while another added, “Aur Mumbai me aapko dekh kar hume bohot khushi ho rahi hai.”

Ahead of the concert, Chris Martin and his partner, actor Dakota Johnson, visited Mumbai’s Shri Babulnath Temple. The duo was spotted donning ethnic attire during their serene temple outing, further showcasing their appreciation for Indian culture.

Coldplay’s India tour

The Navi Mumbai concert marked the start of Coldplay’s three-day performance spree in the city, with shows on January 18, 19, and 21. Following this, the band will take the stage at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on January 25 and 26. Known for their mesmerising live shows, Coldplay’s India tour is part of their larger Music of the Spheres World Tour, which will continue to Hong Kong and South Korea in April.

Coldplay comprises vocalist and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer Will Champion, and manager Phil Harvey. Together, they’ve built a global fanbase with hits like Fix You, Viva La Vida and Yellow.
