All about Chhaava

At its core, Chhaava tells the legendary tale of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Vicky Kaushal in the titular role and Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai. The film recently received tax-free status in Chhattisgarh, with Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai calling it a “tribute to our historical traditions, courage, and self-respect.” He urged citizens to watch it to understand Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy.

No blockbuster comes without a little drama, and Chhaava became the subject of controversy soon after its trailer was released. A sequence showing Vicky Kaushal performing a Lezim dance with Rashmika Mandanna (as Maharani Yesubai) received backlash for being historically inaccurate. Responding to the criticism, director Laxman Utekar clarified that the final cut does not feature Sambhaji Maharaj dancing.
