Chandrika Tandon bags Grammy award: PM Narendra Modi hails Indian-American musician

New Delhi: Chandrika Tandon recently won the Grammy Award for the album Triveni in the Best New Age, Ambient or Chant Album category. Upon her victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday (February 3, 2025), congratulated the Indian-American and said it is commendable how she has remained passionate about Indian culture. He also lauded the fact that she has been working to popularise it.

The 67th edition of the much-talked-about event, organised by the Recording Academy, took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday (February 2, 2025). In India, the biggest musical awards night was streamed live on Disney+ Hotstar.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly known as Twitter), PM Modi wrote, “We take great pride in her accomplishments as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and, of course, musician!” He added that Tandon was an inspiration for many. PM Modi also recalled meeting her back in 2023 in New York.

Who is Chandrika Tandon?

You will be amazed to know that Tandon is also a global business leader and the elder sister of former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi. She was honoured with the award along with her collaborators, South African flautist Wouter Kellerman and Japanese cellist Eru Matsumoto.

According to PTI, Tandon, in her award acceptance speech, said, “Music is love, music is light, and music is laughter. Let’s all be surrounded by love, light, and laughter.” She further added, “It feels amazing.”

In the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category, Tandon was competing against Break of Dawn by Ricky Kej, Opus by Ryuichi Sakamoto, Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn by Anoushka Shankar and Warriors of Light by Radhika Vekaria. Interestingly, this was her first Grammy win and second nomination after 2009’s Soul Call.

For the unversed, Triveni marked a collaboration of three artists who represent diverse cultures. It was released on August 30, 2024, featuring seven tracks.
