Kanti Shah speaks about working with Sheryln Chopra, calls out OTT censorship: ‘No need to censor’

New Delhi: King of C-grade films Kanti Shah has now made a music video Dagabaaz Balma with actress Sheryln Chopra. When asked about why Sherlyn Chopra, Kanti Shah said, “I wanted to make the album with a known face. People pay attention when you have stars or known faces in your projects. I know this because I have worked for so many years in this industry. I have grown gradually to reach where I have reached today.

“Besides if you take a known name it helps us automatically in the publicity of the project. I have started this music company. Had I taken a new face nobody would have bothered with us. And the media has called me because there is a known face attached to the song.,” he added.

So how was it working with Sheryln Chopra, Shah said, “Sherlyn Chopra is a good girl and a little controversial too and we have released the album. We shot the album at H-city, a studio in Kalyan and shot with a lot of Russian girls in it. Also, I have started this music company which is a new project so it is better to have a celebrity so it helps me and my company.”

A new advisory has been issued that vulgarity in content is prohibited. What is Shah’s take on it? When you type p on the internet, it prompts you porn. Crores of people are watching pornography every day. If you put restrictions on films, series etc. the revenue will go to other countries. How will you stop people from watching it?

When told, Ranveer Alhabadia’s YouTube channel has been stopped because of his statement. I know he spoke about his parents and made a mistake, but usme kya badi baat hain.
When asked if OTT content needs censorship, Shah said, “No there should not be any censorship otherwise only the Censor board will make crores of rupees and you know the fees for certification are quite a bit.”

When asked scope of the kind of cinema Kanti Shah makes in today’s time, the filmmaker said, “The kind of movies I made have no medium for exhibition. The single-screen theatres are shut down. Multiplex releases are not for a small-time producer. It’s too expensive.”
