Bad Girl teaser triggers controversy: Mohan G criticises Brahmin protagonist’s portrayal

New Delhi: The teaser of the upcoming Tamil release Bad Girl has been subjected to massive backlash online from netizens and some prominent names in the film industry. For those who have not watched it yet, the promo teases a coming-of-age tale of a young woman (played by Anjali Sivaraman) from her days in high school to her college and beyond. Her clarity about her sexual desires draws massive bullying from her male classmates.

Mohan G criticises Bad Girl teaser

For the unversed, director Mohan G is known for making films like Draupathiand Rudra Thandavam. He reshared Ranjith’s tweet and slammed Vetri, Anurag and Ranjith, all of who he claims are part of a ‘clan.’ Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, he wrote, “Portraying a brahmin girl personal life is always a bold and refreshing film for this clan. What more can be expected from vetrimaran, Anurag kasyap & Co.. Bashing Brahmin father and mother is old and not trendy.. Try with your own caste girls and showcase it to your own family first. (sic)“

Bad Girl movie details

Bad Girl is written and directed by Varsha Bharath and also stars Shanthi Priya, Saranya Ravichandran, Hridhu Haroon, TeeJay Arunasalam and Sashank Bommireddipalli in pivotal roles. Notably, the film marks the Tamil debut of National Award-winning music director Amit Trivedi, who has composed six songs for the movie.

Bad Girl will have its world premiere at the 54th edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, from January 30 to February 9, where it has been selected to be a part of the prestigious Tiger Competition.
