Attention Drishyam lovers! Mohanlal shares major update regarding third installment

New Delhi: Ever since the success of Drishyam 2: The Resumption, fans have been eagerly anticipating the third installment of the hit franchise. Time and again, social media buzz suggested that the next edition of the Jeethu Joseph directorial was in the works. However, there was no official confirmation about the same, until now. On Thursday (February 20, 2025), Mohanlal took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share a major update regarding Drishyam 3.

The 64-year-old actor, through a special tweet, officially said that Drishyam 3 was confirmed. “The past never stays silent,” he wrote. Mohanlal also shared a photo of himself with the 52-year-old filmmaker and producer Antony Perumbavoor.

The announcement has left cinema lovers thrilled. “Just one murder, three parts, and many more to come. One of the greatest stories and screenplays ever. Kudos to Mohanlal sir, the director, the producer, and the entire Drishyam team,” wrote a social media user. Another commented, “How on earth are the makers going to take it forward? Perhaps the Drishyam book that Georgekutty wrote is set to be made into a movie, and the scriptwriter, while digging deeper into the tale for research, uncovers some carefully hidden truths? You’ve got me intrigued.”

The much-talked-about crime thriller brings to the screen the struggles of Georgekutty, played by Mohanlal, and his family, who come under scrutiny after the son of the Inspector General of Police is murdered. The storyline intensifies with unexpected twists and turns as the plot progresses. The film has been produced under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

It is to be noted that the first film in the franchise was a Box Office hit upon its release in 2013. Its sequel, Drishyam 2, which premiered in 2022, concluded on a cliffhanger, leaving viewers wanting more. You will be amazed to know that the remarkable success and acclaim of Drishyam led to its remake in several languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Chinese (Mandarin) and Sinhalese.
