New Delhi: Ranveer Allahbadia on Friday (February 14, 2025) moved the Supreme Court against FIRs lodged over alleged distasteful comments made by him in a recently released episode of Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent. In response, the top court said that the plea of the renowned influencer will be taken up for hearing in two to three days.
According to the latest updates, the Supreme Court has refused Allahbadia’s request for an early hearing in the matter. The bench, headed by CJI Sanjiv Khanna, stated that the case will be listed in two or three days. It is to be noted that former CJI DY Chandrachud’s son and lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud appeared in the court on behalf of Allahbadia.
For the unversed, Allahbadia’s remarks on parents and sex on the YouTube-based reality show triggered a controversy. And, as a result, several FIRs have been lodged against him and others in various parts of the country.
Assam Police summons Allahbadia
Recently, the Assam Police reportedly summoned Allahbadia and YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani. The duo has been asked to be present in person in connection with a case filed in Guwahati for allegedly promoting obscenity in a publicly accessible online show.
As per PTI, Guwahati Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain on Thursday (February 13, 2025) was quoted as saying that a team from the cyber police, currently in Mumbai, has served summons to both. However, they are yet to issue it to three others also named in the case. He further said that summons will also be served to Samay Raina, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Makhija, adding that they will have to be present in person within four days.
It is to be noted that a complaint was filed with the crime branch by a Guwahati resident. During the course of the inquiry, it was found that the five named in the FIR were present in one episode of India’s Got Latent where controversial remarks related to parents were made. Allahbadia has since apologised for his statements, claiming comedy was not his forte.
