New Delhi: Padmaavat is back in theaters to captivate the hearts of cinema lovers once again. The historical drama film was re-released on Thursday (February 6, 2025) to mark its seventh anniversary. The much-talked-about film, upon its initial release, garnered immense praise from fans for the performances of the star cast. However, the one who stood apart from the rest was Ranveer Singh.
The 39-year-old actor portrayed the character of Alauddin Khilji in the movie and, oh boy, he certainly set the big screen on fire with his captivating act. Interestingly, it wasn’t easy for him to prepare for the role.
According to a TV9Hindi report, Ranveer revealed that he locked himself in a room for 21 days to prepare for the film. Yes, you read that right! He used the isolation technique to immerse himself completely in the character.

Ranveer further disclosed that he stepped out of the room once he was confident he was ready to take on the role. And the rest, as they say, is history. Ranveer’s portrayal of Alauddin Khilji became a turning point in his career. To this day, it is considered one of his career’s best on-screen performances.
Padmaavat Box Office collection
Directed by renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmaavat also featured Deepika Padukone as the legendary Rajput queen Padmavati and Shahid Kapoor as the last Rajput ruler of the Guhila dynasty, Ratan Singh. It also starred Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, Anupriya Goenka and Ujjwal Chopra in pivotal roles.
As per Sacnilk, Padmaavat was a massive commercial success and grossed Rs 400 crore at the Box Office in India. On a global scale, the industry tracker further stated that the film raked in Rs 585 crore worldwide.
Based on the epic poem by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, Padmaavat faced numerous controversies at the time of its original release. However, it was well received by moviegoers and received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics.
