New Delhi: In the past few days, Coldplay dominated Mumbai by delivering enthralling performances as part of their iconic Music of the Spheres World Tour. The British rock band’s final concert in the city took place on Tuesday (January 21, 2025) at DY Patil Stadium. However, fans were left in shock when the concert was paused midway and Jasprit Bumrah was unexpected reason. Wondering what actually happened? Here’s the story!
Interestingly, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin abruptly halted the concert and even apologised to the crowd for doing so. But what made him stop singing when the audience was cheering at their peak? The 47-year-old vocalist then pulled out a letter from his pocket, claiming it came from the lawyers of the 31-year-old bowler.
The crowd, initially puzzled, watched as Chris began reading the letter aloud. He explained that it had to be read to avoid legal trouble, else the band might get imprisoned and wouldn’t be able to perform in Ahmedabad. The letter stated that Coldplay had mentioned Jasprit Bumrah during their first and second shows without permission, which was illegal. It highlighted that Jasprit’s name couldn’t be used without permission.
Coldplay’s clip goes viral
Chris continued, “Who do you think you are, you stupid Englishman? Mr Jasprit Bumrah is the greatest bowler in the whole wide world, and you are just a silly singer.” As the crowd burst got louder, Chris assured them that even Coldplay loved Jasprit Bumrah. He added, “Can you please show Jasprit Bumrah destroying England on screen to make it all okay?”
A clip of Jasprit dismissing an England batter was then played on the big screen in the background. Visuals of Chris Martin reading the letter have now gone viral on social media, with netizens showering love on Coldplay for their heartwarming gesture. The band is now set to perform at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad’s Motera area on January 25, 2025, and January 26, 2025.
