Saif Ali Khan attack case: Detained suspect linked to multiple housebreaking cases

New Delhi: As wishes for Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s speedy recovery pour in from fans and the film fraternity, investigations have intensified to uncover the truth behind the case. According to the latest inputs, the Mumbai Crime Branch will now question the 54-year-old star’s residential society and the management team responsible for his security.

Further updates suggest that the individual currently being questioned by Mumbai Police is named Shahid. He was taken into custody from Falkland Road in Girgaon.

Shahid reportedly has four to five cases of housebreaking registered against him. However, it is not yet confirmed if he is the same person responsible for the attack on Saif.

Theft confirmed as motive behind attack

Maharashtra Minister of State for Home (Urban) Yogesh Kadam was quoted as saying on Friday (January 17, 2025) that theft was the only motive behind the attack on Saif and ruled out any other angles. During a press conference in Pune, Kadam revealed that Mumbai Police have detained an individual whose facial features match those of the attacker. It is to be noted that the intruder was seen in CCTV footage fleeing the actor’s building.

According to PTI, the minister confirmed that primary investigations have ruled out the involvement of a criminal gang in the attack. He menitoned that theft appears to be the only motive behind the incident.

For the unversed, Saif suffered multiple injuries after an intruder stabbed him with a knife at his residence in upscale Bandra during the early hours of Thursday (January 16, 2025). Following the attack, the actor underwent emergency surgery at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital.
