Will Loveyappa succeed at the Box Office? Trade analyst predicts lukewarm opening

New Delhi: As Valentine’s Day 2025 approaches, quite a few films have made their way to the theatres. At the forefront is Loveyappa as the film marks the debut of Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan alongside Sridevi’s daughter, Khushi Kapoor. The buzz surrounding this film has been immense as fans have been waiting to see these two nepo babies and their on-screen chemistry. Junaid Khan received praise for his Netflix debut Maharaja and his incredible chemistry with Sharvari. Will Khushi and Junaid manage to awe the audience with their performances this time?

According to official data, despite this high-profile backing, Loveyappa’ opened with a modest occupancy rate of 10-15% across approximately 1,200 screens, translating to around 5,000 tickets booked on its opening day. This lukewarm response is surprising given the anticipation surrounding the film, especially considering the star-studded cast and the promotional efforts.

Loveyappa Vs Badass Ravikumar – opening day Box Office prediction

The film faced stiff competition from Badass Ravikumar, a spoof of 80s classic Hindi films directed by Himesh Reshammiya featuring himself as the lead actor, which was released on around 1750 screens. While Badass Ravikumar had better advance bookings than Loveyappa, it too struggled to generate positive word of mouth on its first day, resulting in a lukewarm opening.

Another film, Sanam Teri Kasam’s re-release featuring Harshvardhan Rane, has also entered the fray. This film has reportedly secured better advance bookings than both Loveyappa and Badass Ravikumar, and projections suggest it could earn between Rs 4 to Rs 5 crore on its opening day. This is particularly intriguing, considering that Harshvardhan Rane’s previous release did not perform well at the box office. However, the resurgence of interest in the film, possibly fueled by its soundtrack and renewed promotional efforts, has created a buzz that could translate into ticket sales.

Box Office race this week

According to movie trade analyst, Girish Wankhede, this week’s competition is noteworthy for several reasons. Firstly, it features two fresh releases alongside a re-release, with the re-release currently outperforming the newcomers. This trend highlights the unpredictable nature of audience preferences and the impact of nostalgia, especially in a market where established films often draw viewers away from new offerings.

Loveyappa and Badass Ravikumar seem to be struggling on their opening days, but Harshvardhan Rane’s film may shine as a dark horse due to renewed interest and better advance bookings. This week’s releases highlight the film industry’s complexities, where star power and audience sentiment impact box office results. It will be interesting to see how these films perform over the weekend and if word of mouth can shift any outcomes.
