New Delhi: Mamta Kulkarni, a prominent Bollywood actress of the 1990s, has renounced her previous life and embraced spirituality. She has been initiated into the Kinnar Akhara during the ongoing Maha Kumbh at the Sangam in Prayagraj. Following her initiation, she performed the ‘Pind Daan’ ritual, symbolizing the renunciation of her past life. She has now been honored with the title of ‘Mahamandaleshwar’ and will be known as ‘Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri’.

Why Mamta was bestowed with ‘Mahamandleshwar’ title?

Talking to ANI, Laxmi Narayan, Acharya Mahamandleshwar of Kinnar Akhada shared that the former actress was connected with the Kinnar Akhada for one and a half years. Mamta also revealed after the ceremony, “I was in contact with Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi, and I was tested on esoteric knowledge. I have passed the examination. Whatever I have received from my guru, I have come to liberate everyone through spirituality.” She further affirmed that will not return to Bollywood.

The consecration ceremony was conducted under the guidance of Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Dr Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi of the Kinnar Akhara and Mahamandaleshwar Swami Jai Ambanand Giri of the Juna Akhara. The process of becoming a Mahamandaleshwar involves several rituals, including the ‘Pind Daan’ and ‘Patta Abhishek’. These ceremonies signify the individual’s complete dedication to a spiritual path and the assumption of responsibilities within the Akhara.

In her film career, Mamta Kulkarni made her Bollywood debut in 1992 with the film Mere Dil Tere Liye. She gained significant recognition for her role in the 1995 film Karan Arjun, where she starred opposite Salman Khan. Over the years, she appeared in numerous films but had distanced herself from the industry for a long time. Now, she has fully embraced a monastic life, dedicating herself to spiritual pursuits.
