Oscars 2025 ceremony to be called off due to Los Angeles wildfires? Here’s the truth

New Delhi: The situation in the US seems far from normal with the Palisades fire in Los Angeles continuing to wreak havoc. With at least 25 individuals reportedly dead and numerous structures burned, the tragedy has forced thousands, including celebrities, to flee to safer areas. Amid all the chaos, it is being said that the Oscars 2025 may get cancelled for the first time in 96 years.

According to a thedun.co.uk report, the awards ceremony is on the verge of being cancelled. The media outlet further stated that the official Academy Award committees, led by stars such as Tom Hanks, Emma Stone, Meryl Streep and Steven Spielberg, are monitoring the situation daily. However, there has been no official confirmation about the same so far.

The Hollywood Reporter, after engaging in conversations with senior figures at the Academy and persons close to some of the above-mentioned A-listers, mentioned that no such plan is being contemplated. It even highlighted that no such advisory committee exists.

In a recent turn of events, the Oscar nominations were postponed by almost a week from their original date due to the ongoing California wildfires. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, on Monday (January 13, 2025), announced that nominations will now be revealed on January 23, 2025.

The 97th Oscars are still scheduled to take place on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre. The ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC at 7 PM ET and will also be streamed live on Hulu.
