New Zealand’s women’s cricket team clinched a dominant 78-run victory against Sri Lanka in the second ODI held in Nelson, securing the three-match series.
Batting first, New Zealand faced early setbacks at 59/4, but Maddy Green’s composed 100 off 109 balls stabilized the innings. Valuable contributions from Jess Kerr (38) and Polly Inglis (34*) helped the team post a competitive total of 245/7 in 50 overs.
In response, Sri Lanka struggled against New Zealand’s disciplined bowling attack. Pacer Hannah Rowe was the standout performer, taking 4 wickets for just 31 runs. Despite a resilient 58 from Harshitha Samarawickrama, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 167 in 46.4 overs, falling short by 78 runs.
With this win, New Zealand has taken an unassailable lead in the series and will aim for a clean sweep in the final ODI at the same venue.
