New Delhi: Over a decade after its initial announcement, Vishal’s Tamil action-comedy film Madha Gaja Raja was finally released in theatres on January 12, 2025. First announced in 2012, the film went through quite the trials and tribulations with cast changes, script alterations, and much more. Now that the film is out in theatres, movie-goers have been praising the film for its impeccable comedic timing and nostalgic old-school film vibe.

Loving the old-school comedy in the film, many netizens seemed to be pleasantly surprised by Madha Gaja Raja. The early reviews from the audience praise the cast’s hilarious performance and wildly entertaining script. “#MadhaGajaRaja is incredible fun. It had the whole theatre roaring with laughter throughout. Not a single minute of boredom. It’s peak Sundar C fun. Santhanam. Vijay Antony. Vishal, Manobala & everyone else performs really well. The most entertaining film I’ve seen in a while,” wrote a user on X.

Why was Madha Gaja Raja delayed?

Madha Gaja Raja was announced in early 2012, while Vishal was always the first choice for the male lead, the female leads kept changing. The director, Sunder C hinted that Hansika Motwani was approached for the role, but changed plans when schedules clashed. Karthika Nair joined the cast in mid-2012.

After production began, the director chose to alter the scripts. However, Karthika felt that the female lead’s role was diminished and left the project. Actresses such as Tapsee Pannu, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar left the projects at different points, later, it was Anjali was the one who stuck to the role. More problems followed as Vishal injured himself on sets. Following this, issues with the production company and distributors made the director drop the project. In 2015, actor Vishal vowed to release the film, however, the film remained unreleased until 2024. Last year, Sundar C and Vishal requested the production company to sell the film’s distribution rights to them.
