Budget Session Day 4 Live Updates: A day before the crucial Delhi assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took a “Sheesh Mahal” swipe at Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, saying while the Centre focuses on providing water to every home, “some leaders focus on jacuzzis and stylish showers”.
The Prime Minister made the remarks while replying to the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address in the Lok Sabha.
Mr Kejriwal has been accused of spending over Rs 33 crore on the renovation of the Chief Minister’s residence during his term in the top post. A report by the Comptroller and Auditor General claimed that the renovation included extravagant purchases and upgrades, such as an 88-inch 8K OLED TV worth ₹28.9 lakh, two steam ovens for ₹6.5 lakh, and 10 beds and sofas costing ₹13 lakh. Additionally, a jacuzzi, sauna, and spa were installed at a cost of ₹19.5 lakh, the report said.
Mr Kejriwal has dismissed the allegation against him.
The ongoing Budget Session began on January 31, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting the Union Budget on February 1. The first part of the session will continue till February 13. The session will reconvene on March 10 and continue till April 4.
