New Delhi: Social media is buzzing with excitement ahead of Emergency’s theatrical release. However, the biographical political film might not see the light of day in one of India’s neighbouring countries. Wondering why? Well, let’s find out!
According to an indiatoday.in report, the Kangana Ranaut directorial has been banned from release in Bangladesh. The decision was reportedly made due to strained ties between the two countries.
A source told the media outlet that the ban was largely influenced by the ongoing political dynamics between the nations. It added that the decision to halt the screening of Emergency was not entirely based on the film’s content.
Emergency release date
The much-talked-about film is set to hit cinemas on Friday (January 17, 2025). It stars the 38-year-old actress as former prime minister Indira Gandhi. The movie also features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman and Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. For the unversed, the period of Emergency in India lasted for 21 months, from 1975 to 1977.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari attended a special screening of Emergency in Nagpur on Saturday (January 11, 2025). Kangana recently took to Instagram to share a couple of photos from the event. In one of the pictures, Gadkari, Kangana and Kher can be seen engaging in a conversation.
Gadkari, in an X (formerly known as Twitter) post, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the filmmakers and actors for presenting this dark chapter of the nation’s history with authenticity and excellence. He also encouraged everyone to watch the film, which portrays a significant period in India’s history.
