Fact check: Did Samay Raina really joke about Rekha in front of Amitabh on KBC 16?

New Delhi: Popular stand-up comedian Sama Raina is back in the news. This time, not for his popular YouTube series India’s Got Latent, but for his recent appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati 16. The social media sensation graced the show alongside other stars–Tanmay Bhatt, Kamya Jani and Bhuvan Bam– for a special episode.

While Samay’s jokes took centre stage, social media erupted with reels and videos from the quiz show and fans are all in for it. However, one particular video has found its way to social media where Samay was seen cracking a joke on veteran actress Rekha. But, is it true?

Did Samay Raina joke about Rekha on KBC 16?

In the video, the 27-year-old comedian quipped, “What is the similarity between you and a circle? Neither of you has a Rekha.” Host Amitabh Bachchan and comedian Tanmay Bhat were also spotted laughing in the clip, which grabbed more than 14 million views.

Well, those who think the video is real are in for a shocker. Because it’s clearly not. The viral clip features Samay’s seamless edited voice which led to massive confusion. Additionally, his mouth appeared to glitch when the joke started. The joke never aired on television which adds up to the speculations on the credibility of the video.

Despite the fake footage going viral, Samay indeed cracked a string of jokes and got immense praise for doing comedy without using offensive or abusive terms. “Main yaha ek hi karan se aaya hu aur woh karan ye hai ki aapne mera ek bhi kaam nahi dekha hai. Agar aapne mera ek bhi kaam dekh liya hota sir, toh aaj ‘Lifeline’ Sony waalo ko laagi hoti (I am here for one reason only—because you haven’t seen any of my work. If you had, Sir, today the ‘Lifeline’ would have been for the Sony team),” the stand-up comedian said in a segment on KBC 16.

Furthermore, Samay went on to ask Amitabh Bachchan, “Sir 50-50 kar sakte hai kya? (Sir, can we do 50-50?)” When the Deewaar actor informed that there was no such option available on that particular question, Samay added, “Nahi, aap humein answer bata de rakam 50-50 kar lenge (No, you just tell me the answer, I will do 50-50 about the prize money).”

Well, Samay Raina’s camaraderie with host Amitabh was a treat for his fans and his jokes are still making rounds on the internet.
