New Delhi: YouTuber Elvish Yadav found himself in a soup. He was summoned by the National Commission for Women (NCW) for racist comments he made against Bigg Boss 18 contestant Chum Darang. According to a News18 report, Yadav mocked Darang’s name and ethnicity, which received backlash.

The controversy erupted after Elvish Yadav made derogatory comments about Chum Darang on a podcast, leaving people shocked and angry. The YouTuber also belittled her association with Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi by making inappropriate jokes about Chum Darang. Let’s delve into further details!

Elvish Yadav summoned

The National Commission for Women (NCW) took cognizance after Elvish made derogatory remarks about Chum Darang on a podcast. According to a News18 report, he has been asked to appear on February 17.

Elvish Yadav’s remarks about Chum Darang sparked massive outrage on social media. According to the PTI report, the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) strongly condemned Elvish Yadav’s “derogatory and racist” remarks about Chum Darang.

In the letter to NCW, APSCW chairman Kenjum Pakam said that remarks were not only an insult to Chum but to women across Northeast India. The commission also called for strict action against the YouTuber.

What did Elvish Yadav say?

During a podcast, Elvish Yadav said, “Karanveer ko pakka COVID tha kyunki Chum kisko pasand aati hai bhai, itna taste kiska kharab hota hai! Aur Chum ke toh naam mein hi ashleelta hai… Naam Chum aur kaam Gangubai Kathiawadi mein kiya hai. (Karanveer definitely had COVID because who would like Chum, bro? Who has such bad taste! And even the name Chum sounds vulgar… The name is Chum and her work is straight out of Gangubai Kathiawadi.)”

How did Chum Darang react?

Chum Darang strongly reacted to Elvish Yadav’s remarks about her and wrote on social media that “disrespecting someone’s identity is not fun”, adding that mocking someone’s achievements is not “banter”. She further said that it’s time to draw a line between “humour and hate”. She further shared that a film backed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was also disrespected.

Later, Elvish took to his vlog to address the controversy and said that he “doesn’t care whether he said it or not and he had removed it as he didn’t want any negativity. He further added, “If anyone felt bad because of what I said, then brother, I have removed that part).”
