New Delhi: Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava has been roaring at the Box Office, having flown past the Rs 300 crore milestone. However, despite its success, the film has become the centre of controversy. The descendants of Maratha warriors Ganoji and Kanhoji Shirke have expressed objections to the way their ancestors have been depicted in the movie.

The Shirke family descendants have threatened legal action, considering a Rs 100 crore defamation lawsuit against the makers Chhaava. Amid this controversy, Chhaava’s action director Parvez Shaikh spoke about the controversy and his experience working with Vicky Kaushal. Here is what he had to say.

Chhaava action director Parvez Shaikh on controversy

While speaking about the controversy, Parvez Shaikh reminded that in the bygone era, many were against Sambhaji, and the same continues today. “The more these people speak against it, the more this film will be a hit. At that time, a lot of things happened against Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, only then he became such a great Maharaj,” said Parvez. Following this, he went on to praise Vicky Kaushal for his immense dedication towards the role.

Vicky Kaushal did not use stunt doubles in Chhaava

In a conversation with Times Internet, Parvez Shaikh recalled how Vicky Kaushal took it upon himself to perform the stunts. “He had never done an action film as big as Chhaava. We told Vicky we could do the difficult action sequences in wide shots with a body double. But he insisted on doing all the action himself,” he added. During a physically taxing scene where Aurangzeb chained Sambhaji for hours, he revealed that Vicky Kaushal pulled a muscle and had to undergo physiotherapy to continue shooting.

Parvez then went on to thank the staff and director of the film for allowing him to have full freedom while filming action shots. He stated that when Laxman Utekar, the director, gave him space to explore unique action sequences, the quality of the scenes skyrocketed.
