New Delhi: Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated historical drama Emergency is slowly picking up steam at the box office. After a tepid opening weekend, the film has finally crossed the Rs 10 crore mark domestically, providing a glimmer of hope for its makers.

Directed, co-produced, and headlined by the actress herself, Emergency saw a notable uptick in collections on Sunday, (January 18). Scroll down to read more as we delve into the detailed Box Office report of Kangana Ranaut’s new release!

Emergency box office collection and budget

The film raked in Rs 4.35 crore on its third day, reflecting a 20.83% increase from Saturday’s collection of Rs 3.6 crore. This brings its total domestic net earnings to Rs 10.45 crore. While the growth is encouraging, the film still has a long way to go to cover its reported Rs 60 crore budget.

Sunday proved to be Emergency’s saving grace, as its occupancy rates improved significantly throughout the day. The Hindi market recorded an overall occupancy of 18.96%. Morning shows started slow at 8.23%, but audiences trickled in by the afternoon, with a peak occupancy of 30.57% during evening screenings. However, the numbers dipped again during the night shows, settling at 16.58%.

Kangana Ranaut’s Box Office numbers so far

Despite the slight surge, Emergency faces an uphill battle. It trails far behind Kangana’s previous hits and falls into a pattern of underwhelming box office performances like Thalaivii (Rs 1.85 crore opening weekend), Dhaakad (Rs 98 lakh), and Tejas (Rs 1.2 crore).

The film is a biographical drama revolving around India’s 1975 Emergency period and has received mixed reviews. Critics have praised Kangana’s bold attempt at storytelling, but the film’s pacing and execution have left many underwhelmed.

While Sunday’s numbers surpassed Kangana’s other recent flops, they remain lower than those of her mid-tier films like Judgementall Hai Kya (Rs 8 crore) and Panga (Rs 6.60 crore). Emergency has struggled to make a significant mark compared to the star’s glory days with films like Queen and Tanu Weds Manu Returns.
