Members of Bihar police’s special task force (STF) and officers, including the additional superintendent of police and the sub-divisional officer, accompanied him in seven other vehicles brought Shahabuddin from Siwan jail on a Supreme Court order by Sampoorna Kranti Express which reached here around 8 AM.
Booked in a sleeper class (S-2) compartment of the Sampoorna Kranti Express like an ordinary prisoner Shahabuddin was whisked away to the train from the prisoners’ van at around 5 pm after waiting outside the station for almost half-an-hour.
Mohammad Shahabuddin was medically examined at the prison hospital and then shifted him to jail number 2 whose other notable inmates include gangster Chhota Rajan.
Shahabuddin has been put under tight security arrangements including CCTV camera monitoring and watch by non-Hindi speaking Special Police Force personnel has been put in place to ensure uneventful stay of Shahabuddin in Tihar jail, officials said.
Facing trial in 45 criminal cases, Supreme Court ordered shifting of Mohammad Shahabuddin on February 15th, from Siwan Jail in Bihar to Tihar days Jail here within a week.
Asha Ranjan, the wife of scribe Rajdeo Ranjan who was murdered in Siwan, had filed a plea stating that free and fair trial against Shahabuddin was not possible if he remain lodged in any Bihar jail as witnesses would not be able to depose against him.
Supreme Court ordered that no special privilege shall be extended to Controversial Former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin.
